Firewood | Seasoned vs. Kiln Dried

Firewood | Seasoned vs. Kiln Dried

If you are in Dallas or Fort Worth and are looking for firewood, here is one thing to look at. Check and see if the firewood you are getting is seasoned firewood or kiln dried firewood.

Seasoned Firewood is a good option if you're making firewood yourself, or if you're in a pinch and can't find anything else. Seasoned firewood is wood that has been cut into firewood and placed outside for around a year, maybe longer, in order to dry out and decrease moisture. The problem with this is the wood will only get down to around 15-20% moisture which will still create a good amount of smoke. Secondly, this wood that has been sitting outside, on the ground, in the rain, will be prone to rot, dry rot, density loss (heat loss) and become a home for bugs and insects.

Kiln Dried Firewood, on the other hand, is the premium option. This is firewood that has been baked in an oven for a period of time to kill all mold, mildew, and insects. This also helps reduce the moisture content greater than seasoned firewood creating less smoke during the burn.

Ranch Hand Firewood is on a whole other level. Our firewood has been kiln dried for 48 hours at temperatures higher than the competition creating moisture content levels around 6-7%. This creates a wood that is easier to light, burns hotter, and with less smoke.

If you're living in the Dallas Fort Worth area and want the best firewood delivery service, then you're looking for Ranch Hand Firewood.
